A worthwhile article and a reminder that we ought to pay attention to the words we sing when we sing hymns and praise songs. https://thefederalist.com/2018/12/28/sorry-bethel-music-gods-love-just-isnt-reckless/
A Rabbi's response to the horrible shooting; we may disagree with this man on many essential things, but we can learn from his gentleness in the face of tragedy. Please keep the family of the shooter in your prayers as well; this young man grew up in an OPC congregation, one not that different than Burry's in many ways. His dad was an Elder in the church as well. So sad and devastating to the Christian congregation as well. https://www.chabad.org/news/article_cdo/aid/4371566/jewish/At-White-House-Poway-Rabbi-Encourages-a-Moment-of-Silence.htm
I was not aware of this story until Len mentioned it to me after church on Sunday. So very sad. Pray for our nation and for the witness of Christ (the Gospel is the only solution to this madness). Also pray for our brothers and sisters at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church of which the shooter was a member. https://www.thedailybeast.com/poway-synagogue-shooting-john-t-earnest-a-piano-playing-nursing-student-from-religious-family-was-secretly-racist?fbclid=IwAR3Y4X8TIFjLjEi1sLxXsf3_Ol8FBX5BbDll9iIw2fc4tPBWfshrZsdjZgs

Please register at the link below by March 1 to receive these rates. We hope that you can make it!
There are some very silly and non-biblical ideas floating around in Christian circles today. Jesus plainly lays out the framework for reconciliation between Christians in Matthew 18. This article is insightful about how to forgive and move toward reconciliation.
Due to weather conditions, all evening events at the church have been cancelled. Unless you have 4-Wheel Drive, you should not come out this morning -- and even if you do, extreme caution is advised. If there is any doubt in your mind or if you travel any distance to get here, please consider remaining at home for your safety. We cannot emphasize that strongly enough. Our annual Super Saturday event at St. John's "Burry's" Church is scheduled for Saturday, March 23. We will host the main event (silent auction during the pinewood derby) which starts at 2:00pm. Some crazy clouds that were coming our way. This picture was taken by, William Holterman, as he worked on the stained glass windows this afternoon.
This came from a friend of mine who is a physician...a warning about the dangers of legalized forms of marijuana. It is a worthwhile read...pw https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/04/opinion/marijuana-pot-health-risks-legalization.html?fbclid=IwAR1ekar8JXP5V7dSLBw9mhfMjSGGozJ-xAMXeoonvo1HbISf6F00X5Vi89E

Are there any “Burry’s” youth that would like to read Scripture or pray during our youth led worship service this Sunday, Nov 4. Please contact Chuck if you would like to participate
In a world that is filled with so much uncertainty (shootings, arrested coaches, etc...) isn't it comforting to know that the Word of God remains unchanged...always. Come worship Sunday morning as we open up that word together and give thanks for the unshakeble kingdom that he has placed us in.
We had a great time catching some BIG fish today at the Burry’s Church Oktoberfest

This is the video we used a few weeks ago. Thanks especially to Paul Groseclose and Stacie Stacie Young Aland for all their work in this promo. A reminder that Church is the people, not the building or the institution.
If this is what we are considering a children's choir to be, then I am all in!
